The Communication and Digital Culture Area of the Popular Culture Association is soliciting proposals for panels and individual papers that explore questions of citizenship in a network society.
How has the penetration of information technology into everyday life reframed our understanding of what it means to be a citizen? How has our concept of agency, participation, public space, & the public sphere shifted in response to the proliferation of new media practices? How do popular representations of mediated social engagement—from cyberbullying to the Arab Spring—define & delimit our terms for digital citizenship?
Possible topics include:
