The Geography Department at Loughborough University is delighted to announce the following fully-funded MPhil / PhD, with the support of the Loughborough Graduate School, commencing 1st January 2012.
Highly-skilled migrants and the promotion of entrepreneurship in the UK
Loughborough University and Paragon Law Ltd, Nottingham, are co-funding a policy-relevant studentship on highly-skilled migrants and their contribution to the UK 'knowledge-economy'. This research will aim to:
(i) Explore the potential for highly-skilled migrants to set up enterprises in the UK;
(ii) Investigate existing incentives and disincentives to migrant entrepreneurship in the UK, for example, transnational connections, government policy and private equity.
The project will involve mainly qualitative research, although some knowledge of quantitative methods may be advantageous.
The student will be based in Centre for Research in Identity, Governance, and Society (CRIGS), in the Department of Geography, which has research interests in education and learning, migration, and states and governance. This studentship is well-suited to applicants from a number of academic disciplines including geography, business, law, public policy and social science .
