Good morning everyone and welcome to the CIG e-forum on Reclassification. We are looking forward to lots of discussion today and tomorrow, so please do join in with your comments and questions. We hope that everyone will feel encouraged to share ideas, thoughts and to ask questions -- whether you are a reclassification pro, working on your first reclassification project or generally interested in this important topic.
Today I shall be moderating the forum alongside Debbie Lee.
It might be worth me mentioning at the start of the day that messages sometimes take a little while to appear on JISCmail lists, so if your message doesn't appear straight away then please don't worry or re-send. We're not moderating the list, so it will get through.
We've split the next couple of days into 4 broad areas:
Day one: Introduction ; what reclassification is done in your library ; classification schemes, etc.
Planning and methods used ; in-house vs. outsourcing ; big vs. small projects; how to acquire senior management buy-in
Day two: New editions, including DDC23 (with guest moderator, Gill Cooper, British Library)
The future of reclassification
These aren't set in stone, so don't feel you can't post something you wanted to talk about if you are only around at a particular time of day. They're just there to give some direction to our discussions. If you're posting about something new, then please give your subject header a relevant title so that those participating can keep track of conversations more easily.
So, to kick us off for today, please feel free to introduce yourselves to the list. For the first topic, we're eager to hear what's happening reclassification-wise at your library - are you considering, implementing or have completed a reclassification project?
