We have undertaken many reclassification projects over the years, both on a large scale (of entire campuses) and ongoing - we classify to the latest edition/monthly updates of DDC.
Like others we use the LMS (Aleph) as much as possible with global updates.
As far as the procedure for processing goes we use a field in Aleph labelled '2nd call no' to create a 'fake status'. We have a code 'RSP - respine pending', once the cataloguer has reclassified the bib record, this is entered into the item records along with a circ note giving the new shelfmark. Neither the code nor circ note appear on the student view or affect circulation policies, but are visible to staff. Once a week, an automated report retrieves all items placed into this status, and depending on resources available, staff retrieve items from the shelf and process them.
This works for us, since it has no impact on the user until the items are actually handled, and processing is done by site staff at quiet times on evenings and weekends.
Periodically, a full report is run to ensure that nothing has been missed either accidentally or due to pressure on resources.

Subject: [CIG-E-FORUM] Reclassification workflows
So far today, we have heard about the range of staff involved in reclassification projects as well as the use of the outsourcing option. We also the need to minimise the impact on library users. It would be interesting to hear what reclassification workflow and processes have been developed and used.
With the projects I've worked on, I have tried to maximise the use of mapping numbers across and using the global edit function in our LMS.
I've also tried to maximise cataloguing time, by getting additional library assistant time to handle the books where possible.
