Skype would be a simple solution if you're working mostly one-on-one (audio/video, desktop sharing, etc.). BigBlueButton is a good open source choice if you need more functionality: http://bigbluebutton.org/. You can host it yourself or use the free JISCmail service: https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/tools/jiscmaillabs.html
