*RESEARCH AND DEBATE SEMINAR*
*The New South American Regionalism:*
* Characteristics, challenges and directions of development* Quito, Ecuador, September 2011
Convened by FLACSO-Ecuador, this international seminar brings together a prominent group of international and regional researchers and specialists to investigate and discuss the increasing development of a New South American Regionalism (NSAR) in a context where profound economic and political changes are taking place in the Americas and worldwide.
The seminar aims to bring together a distinguished group of international and regional specialists to review and discuss the main characteristics and development guidelines for this new regionalism. The debate will focus on key areas on the emerging New South American Regionalism, such as: the changing international and hemispheric environment, the challenges presented by the Asia Pacific region, integration projects, and the political economy of financing development, trade, cooperation, conflict and security.
The seminar will be held on September at FLACSO Ecuador. It will feature international specialists on regionalism and specialists on South American regionalism that are part of UNASUR. Hence, the analysis will take place at two different levels, reflecting critically on the specificity, challenges and tendencies of the New South American Regionalism. The event will be closed to the public but for any information for the next steps of this research program please contact [log in to unmask]
