Hi All,
Another simple passive switch system we have used is a "pull apart"
switch. A short length of cord is attached to the back of the seat, and
another short cord is pinned or otherwise attached to the client,
typically around the shoulder level. In the middle of the cord is a
simple switch and pin system. Movement greater than the slack length of
the cord pulls these two parts apart activating the switch.
I've put a picture showing this approach coupled to a wireless call
buzzer on our fileserver:

I love the high tech gadgets, and could offer a new self learning 3d
tilt switch based on an accelerometer, but why use such a complex system
when it sounds like a relatively simple (no batteries!) switch would
work?
Cheers,
James Dean
