Dear all
Does anyone have any experience of obtaining an independent valuation for all, or part of, their collections? I have been asked by the University to obtain a valuation of a recently donated, major, archive in order that the financial value of the gift is recognised in the University accounts. We are familiar with providing "repair and salvage" valuations but to date have not had to place a financial value on any of our holdings. We are fully aware, as is the University, that the "true value" of the gift is something very different from its notional "financial value". There is no suggestion that this archive, or any others, will ever be disposed of but for accounting reasons an independent assessment needs to be made. If you have any experience of a similar situation and/or using valuers, auctioneers or any other independent experts. I would be extremely grateful to hear from you off-list.
Very many thanks
Jo
