The opportunity:
An urgent opportunity has arisen for a six month placement in Chemometrics based at either Thornton, Cheshire or Amsterdam
The project is available from Sept 2011 for six months and would be suitable for those with (or studying for) an MSc/PhD in Statistics, Maths or Chemometrics.
The intern will manage a portfolio of consultancy projects using standard and novel methods in statistics and/or chemometrics to answer the customers’ key questions and provide insight into their data. Support will be provided from an experienced consultant in the team.
We offer:
The internship will be fully assessed and so has the potential to lead to an offer of permanent employment within Shell.
Salary during the internship will be from £19,655 pro rata.
Depending on the successful applicant’s background, it may be possible to incorporate techniques from their own PhD/MSc work. A variety of statistical methods can be used on each consultancy project – the student will be encouraged to contribute their own ideas.
We’re seeking:
You’ll need to demonstrate good communication skills with the ability to listen to customers’ issues and then to explain your analyses to a non-specialist.
Project management skills will also be important in order to deliver the project requirements within agreed timescale, structuring your time in order to complete each project, and juggling multiple projects simultaneously.
The ability to apply appropriate statistical techniques to the problem is essential - good mastery of one stats package for example: R, SAS, Matlab or Minitab.
