Hi Mogg,
>>Being charitable one could say that some of Crowley's khemetic schemas are
not authentic but might still be in the spirit of the Egyptian
magical-religion?<<
And could it be considered a form of Egyptian Paganism today... seeing as
ancient Egyptian religion changed throughout the centuries, especially when
it came out of Egypt and spread to other countries, i.e. the Isis cult
turning into a Mystery Religion once outside of Egypt... then deeply
influencing the Christina Mary... Or, the actual creation by the Ptolemies
(and the Eleusinian Hierophant Timotheus? need to check that) of the
combination Osiris-Apis deity, Sarapis. Instead of being 'historically
authentic' to a certain period of ancient Egyptian religion, could the gods
of Liber AL be modern, changed, versions thereof?
>>i was thinking Crowley could have looked up some of these gods names in
existing dictionaries - which is quite within his expertise - he could
indeed have chatted to Budge or I thought maybe he might have looked at
Heinriche Brugsche or the Birch Lexicon and absorbed the spelling from
there.<<
Absolutely. Which is [one of the reasons] why I think that Liber AL is
authored by Crowley, even though he himself thinks it isn't. Isn't he really
just promoting its importance by denying authorship - "It was told to me by
a supernatural being".
