I am not employed as an academic (although I get paid to write academic papers) and I have come to this site as a practicing occultist with many years of study and experience behind me and it is exactly that mix of scholars and non-academic students of magick that I find gives this site its value to me. There are probably hundreds of discussion forums that I could spend my time on, most will be pretty useless really, so a site like this that offers the possibility of a quality debate with informed people is an excellent place to spend my time.
I would imagine that there is only so much that someone can learn about magick from just reading books and that to many academic scholars the opportunity to chat with practicing magicians must be of some benefit too. I appreciate that often this will mean that discussions will get off topic (as is presently happening) but I feel that that is the price for having the opportunity to be involved in one of the few really intelligent forums on magick.
