I'm reminded of what we were trying to do around 1983 when looking at html5 and wonder whether it might provide an opportunity to move lis-linking matters forward, perhaps if only providing a voice among geeks and nerds?
Last weekend at the Association of Garden Trusts AGM there was discussion about registering gardens historically, compiling bibliographic material, and although not directly connected, the matter of the draft national framework on planning shows how future planning battles might have to be fought if designed landscapes are to be protected from inappropriate development, if that makes as good a case as any. Now lots of people will be capturing data, if I may use that term, and want to enter it into forms, if I may use that term, and then lots of people might want to use this material, and lots of material will already exist, through JSTOR, uncle tom cobbley, but not RHS as the bibliography has been privatised so most people wont have access, and the VCH is very far from complete, and in any case, doesn't do landscapes or gardens much.... and I could do a book on this section.
Now the html5 matter will be whether there is anyone here at all interested, then the extent to which protocol stacks will be re-usable, books are not gardens and gardens are not books.
If there is anyone interested, perhaps the linkedin sharing knowledge group and the infodefrag might be a starting community? If of course there are any garden enthusiasts, then a good old fashioned sig could be formed.
