MRC Clinical Trials Unit
Statistician
London
£24,176 - £35,860 per annum inclusive of location allowances
The MRC Clinical Trials Unit is an international centre of excellence for clinical trials and associated research, taking trials from initial ideas and design, through conduct and analysis, to final publication and dissemination of results. The major focus is on large, international, phase III randomised trials. Over 30 statisticians and epidemiologists are employed across the unit. Statisticians are involved at all stages of the trial process.
We currently have a vacancy for a statistician with or without previous experience in clinical trials. The main focus of the area of work is to assist in the conduct and analysis of clinical trials in neglected disease areas and in areas without an established infrastructure for conducting randomised trials. The work includes collaborating with clinicians in disease specific networks to conduct and analyse trials in respiratory medicine, and transfusion medicine. This vacancy provides exciting opportunities to make important contributions to clinical research, and if appropriate, to collaborate on methodological research projects across the unit's activities.
All candidates should have, or expect to obtain, a post-graduate qualification in medical statistics. Those with little or no previous work experience would be appointed to MRC band 5. They would become members of the relevant CTU trial teams, comprising senior statisticians/scientists, trial managers and data managers. While gaining experience in all stages of clinical trial development they would be responsible for interim and final analyses of ongoing clinical trials, under the direction of a senior statistician. Candidates with 2-3 years relevant experience would be considered for appointment to MRC band 4. They would take a key role in several trial teams, taking primary responsibility for analysis plans, interim and final analyses and would develop their expertise in study design and grant application writing.
