I find this all very intersting and am now wondering about formal
"coaching" quals, any recommendations (off list please)

networking
Hi Jeremy
Indeed, I know two organisations who have cut down on their OH provision
and
brought in 'coaching clinics' on a monthly basis instead, run by
qualified
coaches - they are proving to be very successful as they are picking up
issues before they become problems, proactive and preventative - so yes
I
think the market is changing. I am currently carrying out research on
motivational factors related to work engagement and what has been very
interesting is the evidence which clearly indicates the motivation to
work
is changing and so systems and management practice in controlling
employee
behaviour needs to change - I think that will also be related to OH
practice
(IMHP so far). I will be publishing some of the findings of this in due
course.
Best...
Karen

Hi Karen, no its not easy to state its a management issue when being
pushed
by the employer. I agree that coaching and training managers is the way
forward. I saw an application for coaching within the OH setting some
time
ago so went off and did a course to qualify as a coach. I have run
workshops
to help managers gain confidence in dealing with absence both related to
health and not. These have always been well received. It's true our
world
is changing, however once we have trained our employers to address the
issues that fall under their remit then we can get on with our main
focus
and look after the health of the worker.
Rgds,
Jeremy
