BIG DANCE ARCHIVES PROJECT
Introduction
The archives of Big Dance are a key part of the programmes legacy and need to be organised and fully accessible.
The current archives go from 2006 include physical assets such as; programmes, files, documents, films, photographs and marketing materials as well as digital assets such as web and media.
There are a number of goals to achieve that relate to the Big Dance legacy which are:
1) Creation of the Big Dance Archive – www.bigdancelegacy.com
2) Working with organisations delivering Big Dance to produce high quality/fully accessible archives
3) Promotion of existing dance archives more generally.
1) Creation of the Big Dance Archive
• Assess and sort the existing materials
• Produce a plan for the content/format for www.bigdancelegacy.com
• Prepare the brief for the web developer based on the plan
• Create /curate/prepare material for website
• Identify an appropriate base for the physical archive
2) Creating a plan for the Big Dance Hubs
• Research to establish the key assets required for archiving purposes
• Create FAQ’s for creating a high quality archive for organisations
• Create a plan to distribute to the organisations by November 2011
• Collation of archives – August 2012
3) Promotion of dance archives
• Research to create a directory of organisations that have accessible archives – dance companies and general eg: Wikipedia, National Archives and The Internet Archive for Big Dance 2012 website
Resources required
Big Dance is looking for a dedicated person who is needed to undertake the research and tasks. This voluntary/intern opportunity is ideal for people seeking work experience to secure a place on an archives MA course. Mentoring by Big Dance team and an experienced archivist would be possible.
We would like someone to start as soon as possible, and for the project to complete at end September 2012.
Days per week: flexible.
The role will be based at Arts Council England’s national office in Westminster. The role will also involve visiting other organisations across London.
