Yes, of course you can :)
1: Click on you menu item.
2: When the content area loads, click the context menu next to the name in the header bar.
3: Choose edit.
4: Set your date restrictions
The Content area is now hidden and will not show in the menu until the rules are satisfied.
Remember if you hide a top level content area, its hierarchical, so users cannot access any of the content within it, even if that is linked from other areas of the course.

I don't think it's possible but wondered if anyone else knew....
Can you set adaptive release rules to menu items and date restrict a whole
content area? I know you can hide/show an area manually and don't think
you can do any more than this. Anyone else know any more?
