Gstat does a cross-check between the goc db and the info system to check that services which are supposed to exist are published, so there is a use in having it in the goc db from that pov. I agree that having a notification for a downtime would have little use assuming that dependent services are marked as down anyway, but the statistical information on how much downtime can be ascribed to argus might be useful - as its use expands it becomes the most vital service at a site, so it will need to be very reliable.

PS I again raised the question of having APEL in the info system, but it seems there's no decision yet. And it still seems to me that it would be useful to have the squids treated as regular grid services, but so far LCG hasn't shown much interest, although the info system part is basically done.
