I've changed the way that the "Intensity Map:" control in the main panel
works. This now uses the colour scale method to apply log and histeq
transforms, so I've renamed in "Color Scale:". You get much the same
options as before, but I've now added sqrt and negative versions of the
other two.
The reason for this is just that mapping using intensity transfer tables
is a bit coarse and for mappings like log you see a lot of false contours,
this is not seen with colour scalings (this is especially clear in model
data, nebulae and galaxies).
I've also tweaked the log and sqrt scalings so that they have a better
differentiation (and similar to other display tools, previously I couldn't
tell the difference) and found an issue in the ramp.lasc and ramp.iasc
tables, these had a non-monotonic defect giving a false contour if you
looked really close.
Now for the important bit:
Since this is an interface change I've updated the GAIA version number, so
you will need to be careful when you do the update. Clean out GAIA
completely (I'd use a git clean -fdx from the applications/gaia directory)
before rebuilding and note you also need to update Skycat (Malcolm, so do
./update-modules; cd thirdparty/eso/skycat && make install, starting from
the top-level directory).
Enjoy,
Peter.
