PROFESSOR OF SOCIOLOGY
Durham University, School of Applied Social Sciences
The School of Applied Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a Professor
of Sociology. The successful candidate will have applied research
interests in any field of Sociology, a track record of internationally
excellent publications and external funding, and a commitment to
outstanding teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post
offers exceptional opportunities for the successful candidate to lead
the development of Sociology within the School.
The School of Applied Social Sciences is a large interdisciplinary unit
with research and teaching strengths that encompass Sociology,
Criminology, Social Policy, Sport, Social Work, and Community and Youth
Work. The School is committed to building upon its strong performance in
the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, and to producing a world-class
standard of applied, interdisciplinary research which engages with
contemporary issues and debates in the policy and wider public spheres.
The School teaches undergraduate programmes in Sociology, Criminology,
and Sport. Sociology is ranked in the top three in the UK by The
Guardian University League Tables 2012 and The Complete University Guide
2012. Postgraduate programmes include Sociology, Criminology, Social
Policy, Social Work, and Community and Youth Work; a new postgraduate
programme in Sport is planned for launch in 2012. The School has
DTC-recognized pathways in Social Policy and Social Work, and has a
large pool of UK, European, and international research students.
Located in the historic and beautiful City of Durham, the School is an
integral part of one of the UK's top 'research-intensive' universities.
The School has close ties to several of the University's research
institutes, notably the Wolfson Institute, the Institute for Hazard,
Risk and Resilience (IHRR), and the Institute for Advanced Study.

TEACHING FELLOW IN CRIMINOLOGY
Durham University - School of Applied Social Sciences
The School of Applied Social Sciences seeks to appoint a Teaching Fellow
in Criminology. The postholder will convene and deliver two
undergraduate Criminology modules and a related postgraduate module, and
supervise dissertation students in the first instance but duties may
vary as the needs of the School develop. The post is 0.5 FTE fixed until
July 2013.
