Hello Elaine
I happen to be sitting next to a lawyer and mulled this over with him. He
did highlight that when he requests medical records for any cases he deals
with (he specialises in personal injury) he accepts a photocopy of the
record with the assumption that the signature on the original is signed by
the wirter.
This is what we both agreed upon:
IT state that they can trace who has added the electronic signature via the
person's log in. Therefore the crux of the matter is the security of the
system including the importance of having a "secure password" which should
not be shared with anyone else. This does raise another issue - in order to
ensure the security of the system each time the OHN left their computer they
would need to log out. In my organisation it can take me up to 5 or 10
minutes to log in.
