There is a good tool on the HSE website which can be used for assessing the risk of carrying weights. Its called the MAC tool and full guidance and instruction on use is there too. Here is the link http://www.hse.gov.uk/msd/mac/

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Lifting / carrying weight restrictions: advice please?
Hi list,
An OH Phys recommends in their report that an employee does not carry weights greater than 5kg.
Per task, this weight restriction is not an issue, but if I calculated the total weight carried over an
entire 12 hour shift I'm looking at a much greater weight than 5kg.
How would you tend to deal with this type of advice and does anyone have a source of reference
I could look at regarding weights / carrying restrictions before I go back and ask for further clarification?
Thank you in advance for your valuable experience.
Regards,
Roisin
