On the first evening of the recent NAMHO mining history conference near
Shrewsbury one delegate in the marquee was kind enough to tell me that he
had liked my poem "The Park Hall Paddy Train", which described a ride I made
in it Monday to Friday for two weeks in March 1955 while working for a
tunnelling contractor, the project we were on being to drive a cross-measure
drift upwards at 60 degrees inclination. To get to the working place
involved a ride down a dip of one in four for a thousand yards, as described
in the poem. The person told me he had copied out the poem and put it on
display for the public to read, but I forget now whether this was at a mine
or museum open day.
Is that person anyone on this List and, if so, could he contact me off-list
to remind me who he was and what the event was for which he printed out my
poem?
Thanks,
Tony Brewis
