The first issue of RSC Publishing's new journal RSC Advances has just been published online. The journal covers the breadth of the chemical sciences, including speciality and interdisciplinary fields - and access is free throughout 2011 and 2012.
Readers can go straight to the most relevant content, thanks to sophisticated behind-the-scenes topic modelling that classifies the content into one or more of twelve subject categories, accessible via the subject tab on the RSC Publishing Platform.

Richard Kidd, Informatics Manager at RSC Publishing explained:
"We have used the latest understanding of topic modelling research to build clear and meaningful categories for RSC publications, which will evolve alongside the research scope of our publications. It's a great tool for us and our readers to track how the subjects develop."
