After an ongoing dialogue with their helpdesk since March, I was told earlier this month that they had to set up a new server with stronger encryption and this should solve the cookies/Shibboleth problem. This was done in a temporary state and they weren't sure if the maintenance window last weekend would make it permanent. If it didn't, then it was going to be October. As it's still not working, I've given up with Shibboleth for the moment and am going to use ezproxy. It also had problems (a session expired message) but seems to be working now.
I was also told that ProQuest Dialog didn't offer Shibboleth so have been using ezproxy here.
I've expressed my dismay and frustration to the helpdesk that they have been unable to get a basic requirement (authentication) right since the platform was launched at the beginning of the year. It has thrown our migration plans into disarray.

Hullo,
Thank you Nichole and Robert for your replies - most useful!
What ProQuest have told Nichole raises another interesting point!
We were told that there was no Shibboleth access to the ProQuest Professional platform that houses ERIC, Australian Education Index and British Education Index etc. until October but they haven't told us that their entire new platform isn't available via Shibboleth until then. Indeed, they provided us with WAYFless URLs to access all of their other resources via Shibboleth, so we would hope that this isn't the case! However, our users are actually able to log into ERIC, Australian Education Index and British Education Index via Shibboleth at the moment by following the "Log in through your library or institution" link and selecting their region and institution. Very confusing!
Additionally, problems with the contact forms on the ProQuest Website have made these issues very frustrating and time-consuming to report.
Many thanks,
David.

Subject: [lis-e-resources] ProQuest and Shibboleth - redirect loop error
Hullo all,
Here at MMU, we are part of the UK Access Management Federation (UKFed) and our off-campus users log into ProQuest databases via Shibboleth. However, since ProQuest released their new platform this summer, users trying to access ProQuest databases via Shibboleth have been faced with a redirect loop error message. Please see a screenshot of the error message here - http://screencast.com/t/WkUW5o1Dx0 . The error appears intermittently, regardless of what browser is used and it's hard to establish why it appears. It is our guess that the error occurs if users have picked up a certain cookie during the course of their browsing that conflicts with access to ProQuest. If a users deletes all their cookies, they can then access ProQuest once more but this is proving inconvenient and frustrating for users.
We first reported this matter to ProQuest on 10th June. They responded and we thought the matter was resolved but we had to contact them again on 4th July, by which point it had become clear that the matter wasn't actually resolved. At this point, they informed us that a number of other institutions from with the UKFed had reported the exact same problem and that they were working on a fix. However, despite chasing the problem up in the meanwhile, we haven't had any more response regarding this issue and the problem remains.
Please can I ask if any other institutions have experienced this problem and what kind of response they have had from ProQuest?
I couldn't see any other mention of the issue when searching this list's archives but we would be grateful of any feedback.
Thank you for your help.
Kind regards,
David.
