Hi Jenny and Gwen,
The Co-Author Visualizer is a Scopus app, so I'm guessing it is dependent on a Scopus sub. At this stage, I haven't found a way of limiting the date range or tidying up duplicate author names (other than the Author Feedback wizard for each author). However, you can contact the Visualizer's developer with suggestions via the Manage Applications link in either Scopus or SciVerse.
Regards,
Pat

This looks great - thank-you for sharing it with us Pat. I took me a while to find the Visualizer tool (and I couldn't find mention of it in the Help) Can I ask if anyone who has used this has found a way of limiting the Source pie chart to a specific date range? Or a way of tidying up co-authors? When I ran the co-author visualizer just now I noticed that a number of his co-authors were named twice (presumably because their Scopus author profiles need to be tidied up). Does anybody know of a quick fix for this?
Thanks a mil,
Gwen

Looks good! Presumably, this depends on the institution having a subscription to Scopus?
Is it also linked to SciVerse?

Has anyone had a look at the Scopus Co-Author Visualizer? It's accessed via an author's details page and looks like the example below. It only works in Firefox and only includes an author's top 30 co-authors.

Hi Kate,

The Converis Research Information System from Avedas also does this (http://www.avedas.com/en/converis.html).
It produces what it calls "Network Reports" - unfortunately we are in still implementing the system here, so I don't have anything I can point you at, although there is an example in this promotional factsheet in case it is of interest: http://www.avedas.com/upload/mediapool/CONVERIS_-_the_information_system_for_research_and_innovation.pdf.

Pure does some clever animations that they call 'graph of relations'. Click the link on this page for an author at Allborg university (Denmark) http://vbn.aau.dk/en/persons/tamas-kerekes(54e1e98f-9e5d-4de0-90ab-06fd58b6e141).html
It's a bit annoying that it won't sit still, but it means that you can drag an author around to see the relationships differently - perhaps focus on a different person. You can change it from floating to Circle or radial.

Subject: Diagrammatic representation of author relationships
Dear lis-bibliometricians
I have been asked if there is a way to generate a diagrammatical representation of the relationships between authors - hopefully, something in the form of a tree or 'sociogram' to show the network of shared publications between a number of people.
Is anyone aware of a tool that is able to do this?
Kind regards,
Kate
