Just to confirm that Kent HER is online and has been since April 2009
(www.kent.gov.uk/her). It can also be found via the Heritage Gateway
site. Finally, we are near the Record Office but not in it. As you say
Chris, nice to be noticed.

Hi Chris,
Kent's HER does appear to be online at
http://extranet7.kent.gov.uk/ExploringKentsPast/ .
It has been available for a while I think as I am sure I used it to back
up some family history research for a friend a couple of years ago.
All the best
Sarah

Yesterday's Home Planet was a question and answer session based in
Faversham and one of the replies contrasted the problems of nature
conservation with the system in place for archaeology in planning and
how with HERs (and their use to assess applications) we had a good
approach. Kent HER got a bit of criticism for being only available in
the Record Office (is this true?) and not online but ...
Nice to be noticed as part of the answer, rather than a problem!
You can listen to it at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0137x70#synopsis There is some other
good stuff there about cutting cement use (5% of global CO2 emissions)
in favour of lime and timber...
