Ok, I will finish with this point. I suppose I am a bit riled about what
has happened in London over the last few days, and even more riled by
some of the explanations that have been put forward for it. Axel has
apologised, and I think showed great spirit in doing that. I think
Alex's heart is in the right place, even though I disagree with him
about just about everything (the NHS is not being privatised, for
instance). I do believe in free speech, so Dennis and Vernillia and
anyone else can carry on as they wish, so long as they (everyone) keeps
it civil. I don't think I will be making any more contributions to this
list myself. It's too much like hard work, with little gain (in fact,
usually the opposite of gain). I suppose I should have avoided calling
some of the comments idiotic (even if I believe that they were). I don't
believe I called anyone an idiot. And those of you who like to complain
about form, or the shape of debates, might like to think about
contributing positively to the debates from time to time, rather than
just sitting quietly on the sidelines letting other people do the work.
Anyway, as said, I will be the one sitting quietly on the sidelines from
now on, at least with respect to this list. I've always thought that the
socialist vision in its pure form is a fine one (and completely the
opposite to the motives exercised by those who have been rampaging
through London lately). It's just that I disagree with many who classify
themselves as socialist. And therein lies the conundrum.
I wish you all the best.
Adam
