This is incredible, although entirely predictable. In fact, i predicted this would happen back in 2004 I think, and tried then to raise some serious discussion on the direction the then government was taking with this, but was ignored. I tried to fix a time to meet the then director of the programme to ask why the NHS hadn't taken up the offer of the US VHA to share their highly successful system for free. He didn't reply to my first six or seven messages, but eventually spoke to me, and his answers were not that convincing. Some high profile academics supported the programme when they didn't really know what they were talking about. Given what it has cost, they should be ashamed of themselves now. In fact, given the cost, there should probably be a public inquiry into why the then government commissioned the private sector to develop this initiative, and why it ultimately didn't work out.
