Satmap Systems Ltd, manufacturers of the ground-breaking Active 10 sports GPS, are a UK based software and hardware company in Leatherhead, Surrey. We are one of the leading brands in the highly competitive Outdoor GPS market and provide navigational solutions to outdoor sports enthusiasts as well as professional users such as Search and Rescue organisations.
We are looking to recruit a GIS and Mapping Specialist to help drive the expansion and diversity of the company's world-wide mapping portfolio. Reporting to the Mapping and Technical Support Team Leader, you will be primarily responsible for the delivery of new map products, however you will also contribute to map related customer service and maintenance/improvement of existing products. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the great outdoors and participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, road cycling or mountain biking.
Drawing upon your GIS training, you will need to demonstrate keen attention to detail as well as the ability to think analytically during the map creation process. You will posses good problem solving skills and the ability to think on your feet when dealing with customer service enquiries. The ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear and concise manner to customers and colleague alike will also be vital.
Responsibilities:
. Delivery of new mapping products.
. Provision of regular updates to existing map products.
. Provide GIS support and advice to company-wide projects.
. Customer service support via telephone and email.
. Production of daily map orders when required.
Essential requirements:
. Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Geographical Information Systems or closely related subject.
. Experience using desktop GIS software such as Global Mapper, ESRI Arc GIS or MapInfo Professional.
. A passion for the great outdoors / outdoor activities.
. Ability to multi-task and aid others outside of immediate remit.
. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable requirements:
. Experience using Ordnance Survey products.
. Experience in mosaicing and tiling raster maps.
. Knowledge of GIS file format conversions.
. Experience of a customer service environment.
. Practical use of hand-held GPS units.
Salary £20,000 to £25,000 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience.
