The latest figures from the National Child Measurement Programme (NCM) indicate that almost a quarter of children are overweight or obese by the time they start primary school and more than a third are by the time they leave.
Taking a new approach to tackling child obesity, ‘Healthy Lives, Healthy People’ (November 2010) outlines the Government’s commitment to improving children’s health and well-being through placing stronger emphasis on prevention and evidence-based approaches to drive behavioural change.
This special symposium offers an invaluable opportunity for local authorities, schools, health services, leisure services and other key stakeholders to:
* Consider the progress made in tackling childhood obesity in recent years
* Explore the next steps in curbing the rise in obesity to help establish healthy habits for life in every child
* Examine how to work in partnership to target high-risk groups of children and deliver tailored interventions
* Consider how to better engage and support parents, promoting a ‘whole family’ approach to being happy and healthy
I am pleased to advise you that we offer a 20% early registration discount off the standard delegate rates for all bookings received by 9th September 2011. For further details about the symposium, please refer to the enclosed event brochure. Do feel free to circulate this information to relevant colleagues within your organisation.
In the meantime, to ensure your organisation is represented, please complete and return the attached registration form at your earliest convenience in order to secure your delegate place(s).
Kind regards,
Alexandra Kelly
