I might have totally missed a major reason why not, but could it be two
baby monitors? I have one which is battery backed, and it could be
mounted high up so not accessible to the twins?
Will there be any other telecare in place?

Hi Polly
I have looked into similar requests and to my knowledge there isn't a
straight forward intercom system that would do this. Baby monitors allow
for continuous listening but intercom systems generally don't. You could
manage probably create what you need through IP telephony-based
solution, but at the scale you are talking about it would probably be
better 'constructed' around a standalone PC and it would probably still
need some threshold definitions associated with the 2 sound source. So I
think that whatever happens you are probably looking at a fairly
customised and expensive solution, compared to any standard intercom
system.
You might need to drill down into the home situation and get more info
on the core issues in order to identify a workable, affordable solution.
I have done that in the past and sometimes found that the client's
perception of what the core is could be re-interpreted in ways that were
more amenable to solution. Good luck.

Jeremy

Subject: continuous monitoring intercom
Dear all,
can anyone help with the following request?
I am working with a single parent family with young twins with autism
and severe challenging behaviour. Mum has requested an intercom system
with the following requirements:-
* Continuously open channels from both twins rooms to allow her to
monitor them.
* The ability for her to open a speech channel to allow her to
communicate with both children independently from her room.
* Extremely robust fixed units in the children's rooms.
* If mains powered must have battery back up to cope with power
cuts
Any ideas?
many thanks
