Hi Barry,
I think that you need to be careful about the quality of mics for voice recognition use. Ideally you want a noise cancelling head mounted mic. I think desktop/array mics will generally suffer in use because of picking up background noises etc. It might be OK just for commands (i.e. a limited vocab) though. USB mics should be better if her computer has a poor sound card as they don't use the computer sound card (AFAIK).
I have just done a bit of looking around on this as it happens, because I have seen a client who is getting on OK with Dragon but the microphone appears to be borderline - it sometimes doesn't pass the audio check in dragon - I think this is dependent on background noise.

Is one of many with mics for this purpose.
Same disclaimer as Zoe though - no expert - there are people who do this a lot more than us - any on this list with mic recommendations???
Cheers
Simon

Dear all
Can anyone help with this request from a local OT? It's not an area that I'm familiar with.
I have a lady who has reduced arm function but wants to continue to use her computer. She currently uses Windows 7 voice activated software. However the microphone she uses is not very good. She wondered whether there is one that can be connected through the USB port and whether it can be desk top mounted. Any advice where to buy such an item from?
Barry
