3.1 The Bloomsbury Colleges are moving to Moodle
ULCC is pleased to announce that The Bloomsbury Colleges are moving to
its Hosted Moodle service. The move from Blackboard means significant
cost-savings for the consortium of five Bloomsbury Colleges which
provides 5,000 courses to over 30,000 students. “In addition to the
pedagogical and technical advantages we will gain by moving to Moodle,
this switch will also mean significant cost savings for the consortium,”
said Dr Mandy Bentham, Chair of BLE. “The decision to host Moodle with
ULCC came naturally, due to its experience in supporting similar moves

3.2 Mobile Learning Challenge - £1000 prize
The International Association for Mobile Learning (IAMLearn,
www.iamlearn.org), in collaboration with Epic (www.epic.co.uk), is proud
to announce the Mobile Learning Challenge. The Mobile Learning Challenge
is searching for innovative and visionary solutions for learning using
mobile technologies. Practitioners, students, and young researchers are

3.3 Innovating e-Learning 2011: Learning in transition
Relevant to delegates from both further and higher education, the sixth
JISC online conference, Innovating e-Learning 2011, takes place on 22-25

4.1 8th International Conference on Networked Learning in HE and
Lifelong Learning, Maastricht, the Netherlands, 2 - 4 April 2012
This conference is considered a major event in the international
'technology enhanced learning' conference circuit, and provides a

4.4 Mobile Learning Symposium
The College of North West London and the West London Lifelong Learning
Network are hosting a Mobile Learning Symposium on the 28th September

4.5 ATN Assessment Conference 20/21 Oct 2011: 'Meeting the challenges'

4.6 Educational Technology and Related Education Conferences for June to

4.7 Open University MA module - Accessible online learning: supporting
disabled students
This OU Masters module looks at the experiences of disabled students and
current debates and discussions about accessibility in educational. The
emphasis throughout is on relating the issues to online learning in your
own context. This 20-week, 30-credit module starts on 3 Sep 11. All
materials are delivered online and interactions with a tutor and other
students take place through online forums, making it popular with
international students who able to learn from one another’s experiences

4.8 HEA Seminar Series: Transforming Students through Peer Assessment
and Authentic Practice - 8 September 2011
Part of the Higher Education Academy series, this seminar takes place on

5. Calls for proposals
5.1 Case studies in digital game-based learning
Chapter proposals are invited for an edited book on Cases on Digital
Game-Based Learning: Methods, Models and Strategies, to be published by
IGI Global (http://www.igi-global.com) in 2012. The book's scope will
encompass the use of digital games in teaching at all levels.

5.2 Call for AJET Special Issue articles
'Building the ICT capacity of the next generation of teachers in Asia'
will be AJET's sixth special issue. Guest Editors Professor Cher Ping
Lim (The Hong Kong Institute of Education) and Dr Ching Sing Chai
(National Institute of Education, Singapore) invite contributions from
Southeast Asia as well as the wider Australasian-Pacific region, aiming
to analyse the strategies within Asian teacher education institutions to
use ICT in building the capacity of the next generation of teachers.

5.3 Call for the first European Immersive Education Summit (iED Summit),
29th November 2011 in Madrid, Spain.
Call for papers for the 1st European Immersive Education Summit to be
held on the 28th and 29th November 2011 at Leganes (Madrid, Spain). This
summit will address core topics on the use of virtual and mixed-reality
environments for online education and training applications. This is the
first summit organised by the newly formed European Chapter of the
Immersive Education Initiative (http://europe.immersiveeducation.org),
and builds on the success of previous iED summits held in Boston and

6. Funding calls
6.1 Analysis of the Value and Benefits of Text Mining
The JISC invites tenders to conduct an analysis of the value and
benefits of text mining and text analytics in UK FE/HE. The objectives
of the work are:
*To collect evidence of the value and benefits of the development and
exploitation of technologies, good practice in text mining and text
analytics.
*To analyse and present this evidence to support the adoption of
particular positions with respect to the technical, economic, legal and
policy contexts that are relevant to them.

6.2 The JISC Transformation Programme - JISC Grant Funding 11/11
The JISC Transformations Programme is aimed at supporting institutions
to effect organisational change through the application of existing JISC
and other resources. This call - http://goo.gl/Pl9t2 [PDF] - is of
interest to staff responsible for and contributing to the delivery of
business change underpinned by ICT where:
i). there is a requirement to deliver one or more of the following
a. enhanced student experience;
b. improved efficiency and/or cost savings;
c. enhanced organisational capability for business and community engagement.
ii). there would be benefit from taking a strategic and business-led
approach to managing and delivering change;
iii). organisational development can be enhanced through constructive
exchange with peers, other organisations and resources (sic).
The deadline for the submission of bids (for 12-18 month projects) is 12
noon UK time on 15 September 2011. (JISC intends to run an FE-oriented
call (covering England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland) in early
2012.)
6.3 JISC Grant Funding 12/11 and 13/11: Digital Infrastructure Portfolio
The JISC invites institutions to submit funding proposals for projects
to be funded as part of its Digital Infrastructure Portfolio
http://www.jisc.ac.uk/fundingopportunities.aspx. The deadline for
receipt of proposals in response to these calls is 12:00 noon UK time on
Monday 12 September 2011.
6.3.1 JISC Grant Funding 12/11
This call is looking for projects to help institutions and the sector as
a whole develop their digital infrastructure.
6.3.2 JISC Grant Funding 13/11
This call is looking for projects to develop services that can
contribute to the national infrastructure that supports discovery and
reuse of resources in collections held by libraries, museums and archives.
6.4 OER Phase Three Programme
The HE Academy and JISC jointly invite institutions to submit funding
proposals around OER related work as follows: Strand 1: Post Graduate
Certificate Development - 12 projects, total available: up to £0.45m;
Strand 2: Open materials for accredited courses (OMAC) - 15 projects, at
a maximum of £20,000, total available: up to £0.3m; Strand 3: Embedding
OER practice in institutions - 12 projects, total available: up to
£0.45m; Strand 4: OER Themes - Projects from £40,000 to £200,000, total
available: up to £1.6m. Proposals may be submitted by Higher Education
(HE) Institutions funded by HEFCE. FE institutions in England that
teach HE to more than 400 FTEs are also eligible to bid provided
proposals demonstrate work that supports the HE in FE agenda. HE and FE
institutions in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are not eligible to
bid but may be involved as partners in proposals led by HE institutions
funded by HEFCE or FE institutions in England which meet the criteria
