MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit
An exciting new opportunity now exists for a statistician to join a friendly team at the Medical Research Council Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit (LEU) in Southampton (under the directorship of Professor Cyrus Cooper). The LEU aims to explore the environmental causes, throughout life, of: osteoporosis/sarcopenia; cardiovascular disease; and diabetes mellitus; and to develop population-based and individual preventative strategies against these disorders. The research work is conducted in five programme areas: (1) Lifecourse determinants of bone and joint disease (2) Sarcopenia, frailty and clinical practice in older people, (3) and (4) Nutrition, Development and Lifelong Health in (i) developing and transitioning population and (ii) in European populations, and (5) Work and health. The LEU is associated with the University of Southampton and uses their computing services.
You should possess an MSc in Statistics or Bioinformatics or equivalent postgraduate qualification. You will be involved with the analysis of large and complex datasets using appropriate statistical techniques. Experience with Stata would be desirable but not essential. You will be working on projects from a number of research areas within the LEU, with a focus on analyses of genetic and epigenetic data.
The post is full-time and fixed-term for one year in the first instance. Salary will be in the range of £27,428 - £33,734 per annum dependent on qualifications and experience.
