*** FAO: University Physics Departments / Research Institutions (especially those involved with their organisation’s schools outreach work) ***
Dear Colleagues
I would like to invite you to the first meeting of the IOP's Schools Outreach Support Network on 8 September 2011, starting at 10am.
The aim of this meeting is to create a network of colleagues who have (or wish to have) strong outreach links with their local schools and are interested in sharing their experiences with colleagues working in a similar role at other institutions.
The meeting (see www.iop.org/education/calendar/files/file_51783.pdf for programme) will start with a panel discussion inviting comments on “widening participation in a changing landscape”. There will also be opportunities to share your ideas and have a say in how the Institute can support your work with teachers and pupils. The day will end with a drinks reception to celebrate the launch of the Institute’s new website myphysicscourse.org.
The event is free, and includes lunch and refreshment breaks throughout the day. Reasonable travel expenses for attendees from the UK and Ireland can be reimbursed, if needed. Please pass on this invitation to any colleagues in your organisation who might be interested in attending.
Booking is essential, so please respond no later than Wednesday 31 August. Please email [log in to unmask], stating any special dietary requirements; places are limited so please register early to avoid disappointment.
We are also running an online survey to capture a snapshot of the schools outreach activity undertaken by university physics departments and research institutions across the UK and Ireland. Any information you can give about your organisation’s activities would be much appreciated even if you are unable to attend on 8 September. The results will be shared at the meeting. The survey is here: www.surveymonkey.com/s/SOSN2011
Best wishes
Manchi
