That is interesting - is that true for many museums?
My take is all museums (and galleries - sorry Jon!) have distinctive
collections, brands and so on but once you strip this away pretty much
every museum web site, large or small has the same core functions. Many
even have similar layouts and so on which is desirable as it makes sense
to conform to user expectations as much as possible.
I suppose a problem with developing individual sites is that there isn't
a core platform with a sufficient number of users to build and extend
upon.
It seems a shame that the work that is done individually cannot be
replicated and improved by the community at large.

Hi Perry
We've developed many museum websites and every time we think that we
have something which another museum could just plug in and use we are
told that it needs to be bespoke.
As much as museums look similar, each believes itself to be unique and
even if it is cheaper to have something off the shelf, they want their
site to be different.
That's my experience of the sector at least...
Jim
