Hello!
I was wondering if anyone could help me out! On the National Museums Scotland website we constantly struggle with how to present our events information (which covers exhibitions and events across five museums) in a meaningful, user-friendly way that doesn’t melt our visitors’ brains. We currently use a Google calendar to log all the events and exhibitions, and embed this into our site. However, we then have to create bespoke pages for individual events, so that we can link to them from our social media and other marketing sources. You can see our main landing page here:

We’ve reorganised the information several times in an attempt to streamline both the way it’s presented and the way it’s input, but are still not satisfied with the result.
I’d be really interested to hear from anyone faced with a similar situation, and how you solved it! For example, has anyone found any good software (open source or otherwise) for creating events calendars? We’re looking for a calendar that offers the scheduling options the Google calendar does (eg ability to get events to repeat daily/at weekends etc) but also allows us to tag events under certain categories (for example, family, adult, music, talk, etc) and gives us flexibility as to how they’re presented within the site.
All suggestions gratefully received!
Best wishes,
Elaine Macintyre
