The Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies
<http://sydney.edu.au/business/itls> (ITLS) within the Business School
undertakes graduate teaching, management development programs, grant and
contract research and development across all modes of transport.
The ITLS is Australia's Key Centre of Excellence in Transport and
Logistics research and education and will celebrate its 16th year in
2011. Through the establishment of the Key Centre and a memorandum of
understanding signed between the University of Sydney and the University
of Johannesburg, ITLS is an international collaboration at three nodes:
ITLS Sydney, ITS Monash and ITLS Africa.
In order to take advantage of the very strong growth (and the even
stronger forecasts) of the aviation industry, particularly in the Asia
Pacific region, the ITLS is seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in
Aviation Management.
In this role you will:
* teach a range of subjects across the fields of aviation
management as well as the interface between aviation and other modes of
transport
* supervise research higher degree students
* make a contribution to the research strengths of the School,
including the pursuit of research grants and regular publication in
journals of high standing
* be a source/centre for numerous interdisciplinary collaborations
within the Business School but also with the local and international
aviation industry to research, educate and benefit from current and
future challenges in aviation and transport in general
* organise and deliver executive/short courses and conferences
* contribute to academic administration.
To be successful in this position at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer
level you will have:
* a PhD in a transport or related field with an economics focus
* membership of a recognised professional association
* detailed knowledge of aviation management (i.e. strategy and
finance) with a strong focus on aviation economics (including applied
econometrics) but also with an interest in logistics and value chain
management. This expertise should include the Australian (mainstream and
peripheral regions) and global aviation industries
* evidence of successful tertiary teaching experience (including
at postgraduate level) and experience in course and program development
* an active research program with high quality peer reviewed
publications and potential for future publications
* experience in organising and delivering executive/short courses
and conferences
* connections to international stakeholders of the industry,
including airlines, airports, leasing companies, aircraft manufacturers,
banks/private equity firms as well as regulators and transport
authorities
* a track record of academic and professional service
* demonstrated experience working in teams and using inclusive
student support practices
* the willingness to contribute to other School activities i.e.
student information days and Summer School.
For appointment at Senior Lecturer level you will also have:
* experience supervising postgraduate students
* proven ability to attract research funding from a range of
sources
* studies in other modes of transport (i.e. railways and buses)
* evidence of leadership skills.
Desirable for appointment at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level is
your:
* formal teaching qualifications.
