I like this, Sheila. Tough clarity & honesty.
A frame in which the contents scratch 'the picture'.

When We Were at Peace
Apart from feeling peace,
I tried to think it,
Even despite the jagged rocks
Planted as if everywhere, as if to obscure
The lack of renovation in my heart.
In my heart, I calculated
How distinctive this
Long pause between
A prior circumstance and an un-
Known future would not last.
Not last, I felt the barbs
Of non-appreciation, as if
None of this was real, none
Happened, we were all expecting
Something constant, this
Eternal getaway.
