A gridftp server, apparently. That's a tadge fundamental.
If you connect to port 2811 on a disk server you should get
gridftp; on yours you get 'Connection refused' just as if
nothing's actually listening on that port. I'd have a look
in netstat, and check to see if the service is actually
running, and if not, try starting it by hand. It should be
running automatically though, so if it's not, there's
probably a reason that it can't.
Given the history, I'd guess that you've got some globus
packages mixed in from the wrong place, rather than the
ones from the glite repo, but that is a wild stab in the
dark.
