Hi All,
It is that time of year again.
We are on a v9.1 Course Delivery licence (about to go up to SP6) and as such have a Course Files area.
Despite the best efforts to get staff to upload their files directly into the File Store they still use the “item” route to upload and more annoyingly to update files. This means that the files get deposited at the “top folder” level and if the file being uploaded has one of the same name in the File Store a duplicate is made, ie Shuggie.doc becomes Shuggie(1).doc and ever more increasing. This naturally expands the File Store volume and after a while everybody looses track of which file is attached to which link.
Do all v9.1 users suffer from the same problem with Course File Stores?
If we copy over (if ever we can get that function to work consistently) it takes over all the files, earlier versions included, to the new course. However if we export (thanks to Mike Bogle for sparking that thought), the export file only contains the “active” files and hence (after having created a new instance) we can import the reduced volume. We still though have the problem of having to deal with filenames like Y1_t2_Timetable (5).doc and expecting staff to rename their “base” file to include a (5) suffix (and keep it) is more than likely a tad too much to ask.
I would be grateful for comments and advice on v9.1 “rollover” issues.
Thanks,
Arthur
