ESA Research Network on Ageing in Europe
========================================
Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted that the final programme draft of the 10th European
Sociological Association´s conference in Geneva (September 7th-10th) is
now available:
http://www.esa10thconference.com/programme/ESA_Congress_2011_Programme_download.pdf
The programme book includes valuable information on locations,
transports, social programme, and many more. Please also find up-to-date
information on the sessions by our Research Network on our homepage:
http://www.ageing-in-europe.org/Geneva/RN1_Programme.pdf
We want to thank everyone who is going to present or distribute papers
at this meeting. Our RN sessions have a strong tradition of stimulating,
engaging and collegial discussion, and we hugely look forward to meeting
in Geneva.
All presenters, please be in the room of your session about 10 minutes
before the session starts. This gives you enough time to upload your
powerpoint presentation onto the computer and gives the session chairs
the opportunity to contact you with some last instructions. A notebook
computer might be of help - the ESA has written “Although most of the
session rooms are equipped with computers, given the size of the
programme and the sheer number of parallel sessions, we cannot guarantee
that all rooms will have a computer installed and available for
presenters to use. Therefore, we kindly request that you ask your
participants to bring along their own laptop computer wherever
possible.” We hope that this message has been overcautious, but if you
do have a netbook computer in Geneva, it might be of help if you can
bring it with you.
Please also bear in mind our 'Meet the Authors' session with Bill
Bytheway, who will be talking about his life-long experience of doing
gerontological research. Julia Johnson will also be there, discussing
her recent re-study of the care homes originally explored by Peter
Townsend. This session takes place at on Thursday 8th September, from
12.30 to 13.30 in a venue near our sessions.
Please also come to our Business Meeting, also on Thursday 8th
September, at 5 pm. After many years as Co-Convenor, Ricca Edmondson is
leaving that post this year (she is standing for the ESA Executive and
we hope you will vote for her, to strengthen the point of view of the
Research Networks). We have a number of positions we need to fill on our
newly-constituted Board. ESA rules stipulate that the Board must be
elected at the conference in Geneva. This will provide us with an
opportunity to introduce innovative ideas about our very successful
network and how it can become even more effective in the future.
If you're ESA member in good standing and formal member of our Research
Network you are welcome to stand as a candidate for Chair or as a Board
member. Please contact us if you wish to do either, or to suggest
another colleague's name. Also, don't hesitate to spread this call for
candidates among interested colleagues.
For the exact location of the Meet the Authors session, the Business
meeting and all other information on the conference please visit the
following website:
http://www.esa10thconference.com
We are greatly looking forward to meeting you at the conference.
Every best wish,
Ricca Edmondson, Harald Künemund and Kathrin Komp.
