Hi Christa,
I've just had a quick look at this option to remind myself. I use the likert scale of 0-10 as students find grading on this level reasonable (as opposed to a 0-5 scale) to give a good spread of marks. I stopped using 1 as the default because students objected to the principle of having to give even a single mark to someone if they didn't contribute at all.
I must admit, I think the split 100 scale was an original option in the software so couldn't comment on its original purpose. However, my recollection was that this approach was introduced by Derek Rowntree in the 1970/80s. I would need to re-check the literature but my memory recalls that there could be issues with this approach in terms of equity of marking and also peer pressure - but without checking again, I may be wrong. At the end of the day, its your choice. Not having tried it in anger myself, I'm not sure how the split approach would be moderated by WebPA. E.g. if 4 students gave each other 25% of the marks, or if one person did better and gave themselves a higher percentage of the marks...
Regards
Paul

Thanks Paul
There may be things I can use there as well especially as I'm talking about the overall benefits of peer assessment. Perhaps you or someone else in this group can answer a question for me (hoping its not a daft question)concerning the split 100 scale, why would I chose this instead of sticking to the Likert scale?

Christa

Hi Christa,
I've also got a few previous presentations on WebPA/peer assessment benefits (http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/physsci/resources/presentations) so feel free to use - though the JISC video is much more professional. :-)
Regards
Paul

Hi Christa
You might wish to consider using the short introductory video that was produced as part of the Loughborough/Hull Web-pa JISC project - Find this at the bottom of the web-page webpa.ac.uk Peter

Hello all
I am running a session on peer assessment next week. I would like to include something on webpa but without prior experience of the tool can anyone suggest the best way to approach this and the essentials to say , I'd like to do it justice?
Christa
