The Virtual Experiments Team at Southampton University have launched a new website and several new virtual experiments. The new website found at http://ve.soton.ac.uk now features various electronic computer science and chemistry Virtual Experiments.
Virtual Experiments can save time and resources and enable students to understand the concept of uncertainty in Laboratory measurements more effectively. Laboratory skills are key in many science and engineering areas, teaching these skills can use a lot of resources and limited lab space caps future student numbers. Although the hands on element can be a major part, the analysis and understanding is also important, some of these skills can be addressed using virtual experiments. Avoiding direct use of labs, targeting skills and reducing staff time commitment could all be benefits.
The Team are available for commission and have released guidance documentation with advice and more information: http://ve.soton.ac.uk/virtual_experiment_guidance_notes_external.pdf
