Hi,
I am PhD student from the Australian National University, and I am interested in coal. I am about to spend 5 weeks in the UK, based at Cambridge, to follow up
on some of the connections between coal in Australia and Britain. In
particular, I am keen to gain some understanding about conflicts between
coal interests and other land-owners/users in Britain through time. More generally I
am interested in what Australia inherited from Britain in terms of
perspectives on coal, the coal industry and mining rights etc. If anyone knows of books, people or other resources that might be of assistance, I would be grateful to hear about it.
The starting point for my research are the many and growing conflicts and controversies around coal in Australia today (including land-use conflict, environmental impacts, industry power etc). My aim is to begin to put these current concerns in a longer and broader
context, with the hope that a fuller understanding might lead to more effective decisions and actions.
Thanks for your time,
Sonya Duus
