Overview:
This course provides an introduction to cataloguing printed music using AACR2 and MARC21. It will have a practical focus, with lots of opportunities to create and edit catalogue records for modern printed music.
By the end of the day, delegates should have:
-An overview of music formats and terminology
-Knowledge of key MARC21 fields for printed music
-An awareness of the application of AACR2 to printed music
-The ability to create basic catalogue records for modern printed music using AACR2 and MARC21
-The skills to select and edit downloaded records
Who should attend?
-Experienced cataloguers with limited music expertise
-Music specialists with limited knowledge of standard cataloguing practice
Who should not attend?
-Those requiring an in-depth introduction to cataloguing sound recordings, music manuscripts or antiquarian printed music
-Those seeking detailed advice on music classification and subject indexing
