I can just about see the point of developing smartphone apps for journals (but wouldn't a mobile version of the site be just as good - or better?)
But what's the point in RSNA developing an iPad app with limited content and functionality when the RSNA sites work perfectly well, with full content and on a decent-sized screen, on the Safari browser that comes with the iPad? (Or on other free browser apps like iChromy?)
The only Radiology content that I couldn't access on the iPad through a browser were the wmv movies, and I couldn't access them through the app either (the app just links through to the web site for those...)
Apps cost money to develop, and as RSNA aren't charging anything in the App Store, surely that means the costs have to be recovered through higher subscriptions? If apps were charged for, and made more than they cost so that they became an additional income stream that helped reduce subscription costs, then I'd be much more keen to see more publishers develop them.
Someone convince me this isn't just feature creep, and keeping up with the Joneses, please!

Just tried RADIOLOGY on my iPad. Looks good.
