EXTENSION TO CLOSING DEADLINE.
VACANCY: RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN GPS/GNSS GEODESY, REF. D910R
SCHOOL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND GEOSCIENCES, NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY, UK
The closing date for the above opening has been extended until August 22nd 2011.
To complement and expand on existing strengths within the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, the University is seeking to appoint a Research Associate in the field of GPS geodesy. You will join the Geodesy team and carry out research into the analysis and utilisation of GPS observations for positioning and deformation monitoring, including the precise determination of horizontal and vertical motions of the Earth's crust and structures on the Earth. The research projects that you will work on are funded by learned body / charitable and industrial sponsors, and you are expected to participate in the development of new projects, the acquisition of new funding streams, and be encouraged to (continue to) develop a personal research portfolio. You will participate in activities to enhance the precision and accuracy of GPS positioning and deformation monitoring (horizontal and vertical) via improvements in the observation model (e.g. tidal and atmospheric effects), reference frame, satellite orbits, new developments in GNSS, and the reprocessing of historic time series. Where appropriate, you will publish your results in leading journals. You will also contribute to geodetic Continuing Professional Development (CPD) teaching activities. In addition, the post represents an early-career opportunity to gain teaching experience in our geomatics-related undergraduate or postgraduate programs, including undergraduate or postgraduate project supervision. This teaching could be in the area of GNSS, geodesy, engineering surveying, or quantitative methods for geomatics.
Applications are invited from candidates holding a PhD (or expecting the imminent award of one) in geodesy or a closely related field. To apply, submit your CV and covering letter via http://www15.i-grasp.com/fe/tpl_newcastle02.asp?newms=jj&id=41299&newlang=1 (or navigate from the main University webpage www.ncl.ac.uk to "Vacancies" and then search).
This post is available for 2 years. Informal enquiries about the post (not applications) may be directed to Dr Stuart Edwards, e-mail [log in to unmask] or telephone +44 (0)191 222 5473.
The post will remain open until filled. An initial shortlist will be drawn from those applications received by THURSDAY 25TH AUGUST 2011.
