The Intellectual Heritage Program at Temple University seeks candidates with a Ph.D in hand for a one-year non tenure-track appointment for the academic year 2011-2012. The number of appointments to be made is subject to final budgetary approval.
Intellectual Heritage, a foundational two-course sequence, is a crucial component of Temple's General Education curriculum for undergraduates. The courses are thematically based. The first course, Mosaic: Humanities Seminar I, covers the following themes: Journeys, Self & Other, Community, and Ways of Knowing. The second course, Mosaic: Humanities Seminar II, treats the themes Science, Power, Money, and Environment/City. The emphasis of the two courses is on development of students' critical and analytical skills. Through close reading, class discussions, and writing, students develop a synthesized understanding of not only core texts and themes, but also critical thinking and communication methods.
Applications are due by July 13, 2011. Send letter of application and CV (other materials upon request only please) to: Search Committee, Intellectual Heritage Program, 214 Andeson Hall, 1114 W.
