DESCRIPTION
Following the success of the previous 'Starting Out' events organised
and run by PALATINE for new or recently appointed lecturers, the
Higher Education Academy is organising three 'Starting Out' events
in September 2011.
The 2-day events are free to qualifying participants.
Accommodation and meals will be provided, but travel costs will need to
be covered by the participants or their institutions.
The aims of these 'Starting Out' events are:
- To offer new, or recently appointed academic staff an opportunity to
reflect on and share their experiences of being a university teacher in
their main discipline
- To help academic staff address the main issues involved in providing
a teaching session for students.
- To consider in detail aspects of the following:
- assessment and evaluation
- course design and planning
- teaching methods
- principles, ethics and values
- To provide an opportunity for participants to network with other
new/recently appointed lecturers in their discipline.
- To highlight solutions and support for learning and teaching available
from the Higher Education Academy.
